CLIPSX / PRODUCT GUIDE

Find what you copied. Understand it. Make it useful.

Find clips by meaning, ask Recall with source citations, and preview or transform content with extensions. Start with a free local clipboard; configure compatible models when you want AI.

Recall

Ask your history. Check the evidence.

Recall uses available search sources within your selected scope, then generates an answer with citations. Generated answers can be wrong: open the original clips to check the evidence.

Optional · requires a configured compatible chat model

What do the copied ticket and API notes establish?

The ticket reports a 30-second timeout during concurrent checkout requests [1]. The API notes specify a 30-second client timeout [2]. The cause is not established.

  1. [1] Customer ticket: two concurrent checkout requests time out after 30 seconds.
  2. [2] API notes: the default client timeout is 30 seconds.

Extensions

Turn a copy into the next useful thing.

Visualize a Mermaid diagram without an LLM, or use Rewrite to change a note with your configured generation model. Review each package's permissions and the result before reuse.

Optional · requirements depend on the package

DECISION MODELS · CLASSIFY, THEN ACT

Your clipboard, with rules that understand the content.

Tag a copied error report, apply a privacy rule, or run a Rewrite setup only when its condition matches. You choose the question and action; a model judgment can be wrong.

The application crashed with a connection timeout.

Does this describe a software error?

Matches → add Debugging tag

Privacy checks and General decisions have separate assignments. Automation conditions use General decisions; Rewrite uses generation to write the result. Secret detection is not guaranteed.

Let your assistant find what you copied.

Connect Codex, Claude Code, or another compatible MCP client to search saved clips. ClipsX must be running and the external client needs configuration. Read-only access is the default.

Engineering handoff

The ticket reports a 30-second timeout during concurrent checkout requests [1]. The API notes specify a 30-second client timeout [2]. The cause is not established.

TO INVESTIGATE

Collect request IDs, the affected environment, and matching logs. Retry safety has not been established.

History is stored locally. Hosted models and external assistants may send task content to their providers. Choose connections and permissions deliberately.

Getting started

Start simple. Add capabilities when you need them.

Install ClipsX, copy a harmless note, and find it in history. Accounts, extensions, and AI are optional. The guides take you from prerequisites to a first result, with recovery steps if something fails.

Content & formats

Keep the useful parts of a copy.

A single copy can contain more than plain text. ClipsX retains supported representations together, so you can return to the content and choose a useful form later.

Copied from a browserOne captured clip.

Useful representations, kept together.

HTML<h1>ClipsX</h1>
Plain textClipsX
Text & Markdown
Notes, snippets, and formatted writing, with readable previews and text representations.
HTML & rich text
Rich content and its plain-text companion when the source application supplies both.
Images
Image previews and available metadata. OCR text may be available on supported systems.
Links & structured data
URLs, JSON, and other recognized text, with relevant previews and actions.
Tables & files
Supported table representations and file references supplied by the source application.

Available formats depend on the source app, operating system, and capture policy. A file reference is not a cloud backup.

Preview & reuse

Check the content. Choose the next action.

Available representations and actions depend on what was captured and which extensions you have installed.

Captured clip

One copy can include rich content and a plain-text companion. Keep both together rather than flattening the source.

Processing
On your device
Available use
Inspect the captured representations.

A map of representations and actions, not a workflow editor in the desktop app.

  1. Preview

Read formatted text, inspect structured content, or view an image.

  2. Inspect

Check available source information, metadata, and representations. OCR is an additional artifact where supported.

  3. Reuse

Choose an available representation to copy or paste. Export, sharing, and transformations depend on the content and installed capabilities.

Privacy & sync

Understand where your data goes.

Local clipboard history and account features have separate roles.

On your device
Clipboard history and its local search data stay on the desktop device.
Optional local processing
Optional models use your configured compatible connection. It is not required for ordinary text search.
Optional account sync
Selected settings and extension choices can sync through an account. Clipboard history is not included.
Extension access
Permissions and processing depend on the extension. Check requested access before approving it.

Common questions

Before you get started.

Do I need an account?

No. The core local clipboard experience does not require an account. Account-based features, such as supported settings sync, are optional.

Which download should I use?

The Download page lists currently available builds and installation information. Check it for availability on your operating system.

Can this website access my clipboard?

This Product page does not read or write your clipboard. Capture happens in the installed desktop application.

Are OCR and Meaning Search always available?

No. OCR depends on platform support and configuration. Meaning Search requires an optional compatible embedding model. Ordinary text search works without either.
